Hi I’m Dean Milner-Bell

I dedicate considerable time to focusing on detail, yet I have grown to appreciate looking beyond the obvious. I find joy in close observation and engaging with my surroundings, embracing the challenge of capturing unique scenes by seeing past compositional distractions. My inspiration often begins with the interplay of light in specific locations.

Art has always been a refuge for me, especially given my dyslexia, as it fosters a closer connection to nature and deepens my passion for beaches, oceans, and wildlife.

As a proud Yorkshire artist committed to ocean conservation and the well-being of our planet, I also find great fulfilment in being an image designer for individuals with communication challenges, particularly those with learning disabilities. In my previous role as a Creative Director, Accessible Information Designer and also an Easy read designer, I take great pride in having created the largest free image bank in the UK to support communication needs. Currently running my new business YourSymbols which is a complete fusion of all my years creating easy read images.

Over the past 30 years, I have developed meaningful friendships with many individuals with learning disabilities, who have become close friends. Working alongside them has enriched my understanding of humanity and the kindness inherent in people. I am profoundly grateful to the learning disability community and my friends for these invaluable experiences.
